Design Drawings
Designs range from very simple to very complex. Conveying a 3D design on as 2D line images while meeting the stringent USPTO design unit standards is more of an art than a science. We’ve been doing it for nearly two decades. To see a larger version of the sample click on the appropriate blue button for each image. When you file for a design patent, you are relying on the drawings to fully and accurately convey the design to the examiner. The views that are created must be completely consistent with one another. Elevational and plan views must be devoid of all perspective (a typical error made by draftsmen who aren't familiar with USPTO guidelines). It is especially critical to file formal drawings prepared by a professional draftsman in design cases: inadequate drawings rejected by the Design Unit may lead to the abandonment of the case as the USPTO issues new matter rejections to any later changes. We generally charge $90 to $180 per sheet for design drawings. Complex cases can be somewhat higher, but our average cost per sheet on design drawings remains about $130. Utility Drawings
Often we are only given a sample from which to create patent drawings. Digital photography helps us achieve the realistic look and feel to the drawings that you see here; we used the digital images as templates. The computer becomes a digital tracing pad we can add the details and shading later. The views you see here were taken from a much larger case. We can work from prototypes, rough sketches, inventor disclosures and computer images. We can import images from Microsoft Office (Power Point, Word) and other applications. We can even employ your client's AutoCAD files to save considerable time and money on certain drawings. We can travel to a client's location to research a device that can't be moved (heavy machinery). We charge $40 to $175 per sheet for utility drawings. Our average cost per sheet is still under $90. These drawings demonstrate the efficiency that computers bring to patent drafting: the computer screens only had to be created once and then used throughout. Even though the illustrations had to be individually created, you can imagine how much less time consuming it is to duplicate the circle shapes compared to drawing them by hand. One thing that pen and ink draftsmen won't tell you: laser printers at 600 or 1200 dots per inch resolution produce much cleaner lines with no feathering compared to the lines produced by a technical drawing pen on board. Trademark Drawings
We've done over a thousand TM drawings since 1991, with no two exactly alike. Lined for color (like the CERA NOVA or EUROTUNNEL TM's) or just in simple black on white, we're familiar with the USPTO's requirements on TM drawings. The samples you see here are a tiny fraction of the work that we've done. Our experience covers just about every type of TM in existence. Our charges for TM drawings vary widely (as does the type of TMs we're asked to draw), but our average is about $75. Contact us for a price quote.
